Meet the Composer
Hua-Hsuan Tseng is a composer and cellist based in Los Angeles, CA.
As an Artist, she simply goes by HUA.
HUA's music covers a wide range of musical styles including classical, electronic, Chinese, and pop. HUA's experiences in the Western and Eastern musical worlds extend her musical palette by exploring refreshing sounds, unique techniques, and colorful textures. Her impressive blend of these musical voices allows her to bring something new and exciting to each of her compositional techniques within her scoring process.
HUA got her BFA in Cello Performance in the Chinese Music Department from the National Taiwan University of Art. She then received an MFA in Music Composition for the Screen at Columbia College Chicago where she is a recipient of the Graduate Award.​
From short films to commercials and even animation, HUA has written for various media projects of size and scope. She has worked for well-known professional composers such as Stephanie Economou, Allyson Newman, and Nathan Wang. In addition to assisting these mentors, HUA released her first EP and debut album, "HUA Dreaming." This album represents her endeavors through a magical fusion of Chinese and Western music.
HUA is also highly sought-after as a cellist. Along with her many notable productions, HUA's cello performance can be heard on award-winning composer Tom Howe's score in the Documentary film, "Conventional Wine." HUA is consistently recording her own projects and creating new music. She also works as a session musician for other composers. Most recently, HUA has been recruited to join a metal band, Hvile I Kaos, as a cellist.
This is a new exciting venture that will surely bring new flavors to savor in all of her projects. Whether is Composing or Celloing, HUA is dedicated to expanding her musical horizon and exploring what new possibilities her imagination could conjure.
